The Yard - House + Workshop

A new house and workshop around a central courtyard built inside an old brickyard and tucked behind lively Lordship Lane in East Dulwich, London. The house is formed around an internal courtyard and lined in translucent polycarbonate panels. The courtyard becomes the primary space around which the life of the house revolves - an outdoor room to which all the main interior spaces are connected. Internally, the material palette is simple - concrete blocks are combined with a timber-and-steel superstructure frame. Polished concrete floors have been provided on the ground floor. Plywood and OSB panelling has been used on the upper floors and walls as a nod to the informal qualities of the original site and surrounding buildings.
